An Improved Hydraulic Power Take-Off Unit Based on Dual Fluid Energy Storage for Reducing the Power Fluctuation Problem in the Wave Energy Conversion System

The power take-off (PTO) stability is one of the most important concerns for wave energy converters (WECs). PTO unit converts mechanical produced by absorber (WA) into useful electrical energy. Due to drastic input variation real motions, generated from significantly fluctuates and potentially harmful electronic appliances. This paper proposes an improved hydraulic (HPTO) WECs. An HPTO comprises a dual high-pressure accumulator (HPA) module fluid control (FEC) module, which enhances generator under irregular circumstances. A complete model device with conventional units was built in MATLAB/Simulink using Simscape fluids toolbox. parameters FEC strategy were optimized genetic algorithm. simulated five inputs evaluate its performance conditions. effects HPA pressure constraints on also investigated. Overall, simulation results indicate that able generate stable up 87.3% WECs sea state.
